Fazisi

Fazisi is docked at Lakeview Marina today, Saturday and Sunday. This is a must see sailing sloop. An 83 foot "Maxi" style racing rig that was the first and only Russian entry in the 1989 Whitbread race. For those not in the know, the Whitbread is a round the world sail race. 33,000 gruelling nautical miles in all types of sea and weather. The winner of that particular race was the New Zealand ketch named Steinlager 2 . She completed the trek in 128 days at an average speed of 22 knots. Pretty darned fast. Fazisi didn't do as well but her race was a much larger challenge (read link below). Here is what the race looked like from the deck of Fazisi:

Fazisi is just coming in from the direction of New York. She also just completed a Boston to Halifax sail race. This is short notice but the ship and her crew are on a well publicized stop here in Windsor. A great opportunity to shake some hands, chat and listen to some whale tails. This is one big, fast, sexy boat. Worth the visit. Pack up friends and family and pay her a visit. Let's put some "T" in Tourism.
Read this news clip from the New York Times which was published in 1990 shortly after that Whitbread race:
