Illegal Dumping in Old Walkerville during Art in the Park
While record crowds were cruising Old Walkerville for Art in the Park this pair was showing their appreciation in another way. Around 2:15 P.M. and in broad daylight they celebrated the City's garbage strike by dropping off a few gifts in Old Walkerville. They entered through the alley behind the 800 block of Walker Road, found this empty lot and decided that it would be the perfect home for the remnants of a near new Nissan SUV. There are homes next door!
Neatly chopped into several major sections by torch it was just offloaded into this field sharp edges and all. The pictures below were taken on the stealth and offered to the Windsor Police along with full descriptions and a licence plate number. The Police Department said the pics were not necessary and said that they would have an officer out shortly. Two and a half hours had passed and the only people who arived at the scene were the same two men but this time with a tow truck and a new gift carcass. They dropped it off in the same field and left. Again pics were taken, police called and the same anwer was given. "We don't need the pics and we'll have an officer out as soon as possible". After three hours police did arrive only to say that there was nothing they could do because it is a private property and by-law issue.
The by-law for that property clearly states that no outside storage is permitted. Never mind illegal dumping. It was explained to them that the perps were not the ownership but that made little difference in their answer. Does the real owner know about this? With vague answers such as those given by police who knows?
For anyone who might know where these guys are the name on the side of the tow truck is Zaitoun Towing. By the logos on the truck they will tow anything in Canada, the U.S. or Lebanon. The telephone numbers on the truck are: (519) 991-4140 and (519) 254-9777. So far no answer at either line.
So now Old Walkerville has some new blight which the City apparently has no problem with. Why would they? They seem quite content with burdening Windsor residents with growing hills of rotting garbage all over the city. It seems our Mayor, Council and CUPE could care less. No rules now it seems. Free-for-all. So...This blog will be forwarded to at least one extra reader today. Anyone in by-law enforcement who gives a damn.

Great detective work on the part of the MOM blogger - poor detective work on the part of Windsor Police! Unbelieavable.
Doesn't the head of the Windsor Planning Department (Mr. Tom Hunt) live on Monmouth. Maybe you could talk to him. I'm sure he could get some support. Walker road along the 800 block is looking worse by the day.
I can relate to the frustration of illegal dumping, magnified by this prolonged 'work stoppage'. As for by-law enforcement, they're on strike too! Your struggle between by-law and police enforcement is only beginning, sadly. Rules are gone, we are in desperate need of some order.
I can't believe this! OMG. Send this to the Star and let them publicize it more. Send it to MPs too. Gees, I am in shock!!
I too experienced the discordance of shocked disbelief, my core belief in human nature has been overturned; but it's not the act of a random garbagier. Going door to door I discovered it was the lot owner that dropped the chopped truck sections and Nissan V8. No accident; instead, the mutilation of communal pastoral tranquility. Monmouth Road will not sleep until our dedicated ByLaw Officers apply due diligence enforcement. Hopefully in my lifetime. Dream on. :)

If it was the lot owner then shame on him. A week prior he cut down the weeds in that very lot and complained about the illegal dumping on the site. He must have hired Zaitoun. Well now he has a different set of problems. The bi-law clearly states that outside storage is not permitted on that site. He will now have to deal with that and he will probably be required to erect fences as well because that field is wide open from two sides. This razor sharp scrap and broken glass can cut a childs hand, foot or ankle with no effort. He doesn't know what kind of a hornets nest he has disturbed.
That is just sad. I guess a strike in the city means lawlessness to some.
I love the typical police reaction as well. Why bother with an investigation, we have parking lots to sit in.

We are all free to drop our garbage off ...wherever? And it doesn't matter?
So - can I just pick an alley - and in broad daylight, dump off a mound of garbage that's been piling up in my back room? Hell - maybe I can make some money! For 20 bucks - i'll come and get your junker car - and dump it in a residential alley. The police won't care, because it's a non-issue - so what does it matter even if someone DOES get my license plate? This is a bloody outrage! Great detective work - but it's very sad that nothing is being done with it.
Poster above has a good point. The landowner may be attempting to make a statement, but is pretty dumb in the process. He opened himself up to a huge lawsuit. If the landowner has a unfenced lot and is dumping sharp broken auto parts around it and someone slips and falls on it to take a shortcut, there's a lot of slip and fall lawyers in this city who would take his case on commission. I know because I got sued by a clumsy con artist and he was claiming a king's ransom.

The auto parts in question were examined by a Detective from our Auto Theft Unit.
The parts are not stolen, but were dropped there by the truck depicted on your
website. The owner of the truck was contacted and he indicated to the detective
that he "rents" the property and was storing the parts there. He was informed of
the existing City Bylaw regarding Motor Vehicle Salvage that prohibits using land
in the City storing m.v. parts for the purpose of wrecking and dismantling.
The detective directed that the parts be removed forthwith. The person responsible
indicated that the parts will be removed by Monday, June 22nd. We will be
following up this matter until the parts are removed.
