Saturday, May 27 is Street Sweep Day!

Time to grab your brooms, rakes and shovels. Art in the Park is coming fast (June 3). This is a critical year to make our street shine. Let's raise interest in our street to an all time high. We'll meet in the street at 9:00 A.M. as usual, sweep and clean the gutters and haul everything to the dump.

To get a jump on this thing please try and sweep the alley behind your house in advance of the above date. Bag it in paper yard bags so we'll only have to load it in the truck and haul it away.

We'll jump start with coffee and donuts as usual. Print this out and stick it on the fridge. Don't forget.

Hi there! Those of us who live in the 700 block, especially close to the Lofts, have a monumental task just trying to keep the grime at bay each time a car goes whizzing past...(the dumptrucks have made a huge mess hauling the dirt away). But, we'll certainly do our best to sweep and clean. It's VERY important to our neighbourhood!!

Hi, I am new to the neighbourhood, so I am not sure what happens exactly. Can someone explain? Do we actually go outside with brooms? How long does it usually take? Do we sweep everywhere, or just in front of our own house?? Who hauls the stuff to the dump?

Thanks.

Welcome to the neighbourhood!!

Yes, we actually go out with brooms and sweep the front of our places. Many of us move along with the caravan and clean up after those lazy asses that don't care to contribute. We dump everything into the "AL QUEDA" and it gets hauled to the dump by whoever gets volunteered.

Today they came to clean the street at 8:00am and there were some cars park, the street cleaner made a call to let some know how bad our street was and could not clean it.I went out to move my car so that he could make another go round of the street but he just kept going.I think that the City should be called on this for this is not the frist time.I saw the samething happen last month. If only the street cleaner would come a little later everyone would have moved thier cars by going to work.
As far as those lazy asses not cleaning up; mybe they work two jobs or they just don't know about the clean up day such as me' I do clean in fornt of my house,I have a big tree with squarls in it that make a mess each day. So that was very unkind to say such a thing. I have lived on this street 2 years and somepeople steal don't even speak.
And that's OK!Iam very busy, work two jobs, and have maintained my lawn with the help of a lawncare service and he always cleans the street infront of my house once a week even when it rains. I have improved the street looks by the new landscaping that was done last year. I take walks every day and I see the street and as far as I see Our street Monmouth Road is still the prettest Street in the whole City.I love my street It's one of a kind, that is why I picked it to cover my life for I love beauty at its best and it has it all.
SO, Please don't Knock People you Don't know about,Because you don't know what goes on behind close doors.

PS there are old fokes and sick fokes that have to wait on thier kid to come to and do yard work.

I certainly wasn't referring to the "...old fokes and sick fokes " as you put it. Get a grip and quit making excuses for people. I was or course referring to those that I know are "lazy asses". Also, working 2 jobs is no excuse for not keeping your place clean. Even if you cannot make it on the day, you can still "contribute" by cleaning up when you get a chance!! Unless you work 2 12-hour shifts per day :-) Lastly, there's no excuse for not knowing about this event as Peter does his best to inform, including a flyer that he personally creates and distributes. And don't make an excuse for those on the street that cannot read!!

Just some F.Y.I. This event is meant to be two fold in purpose: 1) To give our street a spring cleaning for the Art in the Park visitors whom we want to remember our street as a very viable place to live. (2) A social event where we can have some fun as neighbours. The rest of the year it is very obvious that we clean and care for our street as individuals. That is the main reason why our street is such a great place to live. Have fun out there!

Comment 4, your reference to 'Lazy Asses" is unwelcome. I live here because of the current quality of my neighbours, not just the quality of lawncare and housing. I don't admire negitive comments hiding behind "anonymous" comments. When I and 4 or 5 other urban pioneers started this
whole renovation thing rolling in the early 80's, we hung out as friends and helped out each other. We made it all possble for you. No other blocks on Monmouth have prospered as the 700/800 has. You can't imagine the conditions we faced back then. But I never recall anyone calling each other lazy asses. I don't recall running down the residents back then, after all , we were guests. Back then, looking sideways at the old-school neigbours resulted in getting your tires slashed, calling them lazy asses would have resulted in a beating. People don't speak to You? Try smiling, extending your hand, compliment something you like about their home and introduce yourself.Rand

Apologies to Comment 4, the "Lazy Asses" comment was not yours. But do make friends of your neigbours.
A lot of people just don't want to step on others privacy or are just plain shy. And comment 3, just don't go out of your way to help the people that don't come out to help clean up. They need a ladder
or power tool? I just tell them no.
I don't work for them on cleanup days and I don't subsidize their life style and disposible income by lending them expensive tools I paid for. These are general comments. Some people can't help out on communal cleanup days, but generally I think what you give ,you get . Help your neighbours and they help you.
