Willistead Manor's heritage lecture series continues tonight with a presentation from a local author and businessman, Chris Edwards.
Titled The Life and Times of Hiram Walker, the lecture will begin at 7 p.m. and will be followed by a tour of the manor. Light snacks and coffee will be served. A donation is requested for admission.
Friends of Willistead are celebrating a century this year with the lecture series, sponsored in part by The Ontario Trillium Foundation.

P.S.: Who is handling the advertising and promotion for this sort of thing? You would think that the commemoration of Willistead's 100th anniversary would deserve more promotional fanfare than a small blurb in the Star on the same day as the event. Wrong, wrong, wrong.

I would suggest they hire a proven, quality consultant and pubilc affairs spokesman - John Parent would be a good choice.

Yeah. How dare a volunteer oranization with a limited budget with fundraising, most of which goes back into the house, not hire a publicist.

\scarcasm

Keep in mind that when running event like this, you can notify and distribute as many press releases as you want. You can send them out the day before or the month before, it makes no difference. Media outlets like the CBC and Windsor Star will not act on them until the day of/day before the event.

The problem lies with the media not with the volunteers.

That being said the more secretive the event, the better chance of keeping the Health Unit away... :)

Hey...Thanks for the comment Andrew. Volunteer organizations sans publicists should maybe be looking at non-traditional media as well. This blog will gladly put the word out well in advance if provided with information. Yours, I'm sure, would do the same. Maybe there's a rallying cry here for the Capitol Theatre. Your link has beeen posted in kind. Thanks. P.S. Cool blog

It'd be nice to see more of this heritage promo stuff happening. Below is a link to a tragedy happening to a Victorian gem in St. Thomas.

kirwood,

I couldn't agree more. However don't forget a large contingent of many of the volunteer groups are made up of older/elderly people.

I think when they consider media sources the internet and local/communitiy websites and blogs aren't even on their radar. I suspect many wouldn't even know what a blog was.
