It was disgusting.

However like you guys, I'm a resident of ward 3.

Ward two councilors seem to have starnge priorities... Councilor Jones, only seems to care about Old Sandwich, and Councilor Postma? Well she doesn't like the studio 4 sign... Mixed up priorities all around in this city.

Sigh... We only have ourselves to blame, as long as the sheeple keep returning the same pack of clowns to City Hall and Queen's Park, I wouldn't expect anything to change.

I've been trying to cover it on my site too. http://artwindsor.org

Will be adding more photos later today. I've posted a video on my site as well from the rally.

It's not about who is a councilor. It's about what we do with our money. We all had the choice to buy Capitol Theater tickets. Ticket income did not keep up with theater expenses. Compare the amount Windsor spends on cable compared to how much we spent at the Capitol Theater. It's about choice. We choose cable.

kind of agree with you anonymous. Kind of. Windsorites have the money for both cable and the arts. Believe it or not this area has some of the highest per capita earnings in the province. The problem as I see it is three fold.

The Capitol Theatre Management should never have chosen to depend as they did on bingo revenue. Not realistic and certainly not sound business practice. How could there be "long term" in that? They became bingo junkies. Too complacent.

Secondly, their promotions sucked. They did not effectively get their booking schedule to the area public and more importantly to the lucrative Michigan public. Who will go to where to see what if they never see or hear about anything? Budget problems are no excuse either because they could have canvassed via fax machines, telephone, posters and internet. Heck...They could have asked the local blogosphere to help out. This is where their business creativety was lacking.

Lastly, coupled with the last two points they could easily raise ticket prices. This is a pretty cozy and exclusive venue and once again, people do not mind paying more for something that gives them some stimulation and pleasure. Look at how much money people will spend to see a pretty average rock concert. When was the last time you purchased tickets for a wings game? Do you know how much it costs to go to a monster truck show?

I think that the City admistration did the right thing. Why send good money after bad? The Capitol is not dead and I believe it will rise up stronger than ever and on the right tac. It just needs the right motive.

You're right Kirkwood. Marketing is the touchstone of profit. I would suggest that the next Capital Theatre management groupshould create a promotional organization umbrella group recruiting all the performing groups members, as marketing agents - a very large, creative, grassroots membership - and utilize their energies. My personal issue with the City, neighbours & Bylaw Enforcement is of course - an RX7 & Subura.

So I don't go to Hockey Games in this City and I don't have kids that play hockey, and I don't live in the East End, yet I'm paying for a multi-million dollar facility I may never use. But I can't pay a nominal sum of money (in comparison) to pay for an arts facility which I will probably never use.

Whats the diff.? What if we said no to the Spits? Whould they have been forced to close up shop? Why can we chose one over the other. Why not give the Capital cash as well. Its seems like a double standard. Maybe the new owners of the Spits who have benefited greatly from the taxpayers of Windsor can make a large donation.

All such venues should be self sufficient. If they have no legs they can't realistically stand. Sometimes the arts just need some extra civic help. As for hockey; it should be totally self sufficient and probably privately owned. The reason the taxpayers are paying is because we were so anxious to get anything accomplished that we settled for the first thing that came along. It was also about ice pads for our kids. We wanted them, four were offered up in the package so we went with it. That's the reason for the poor location (should have been downtown). The East end location will never serve any other venue as does the Labatt Center in London. Ours is going to more like a community center. Thats Windsor for you.
