EAT YOUR HEART OUT LONDON ONTARIO

Windsor's Mayor Eddie Francis has a new friend and they are pretty serious. We learned that from the Windsor Star's own Gord Henderson. Read his column here:

http://www.windsorstar.com/travel/London+developer+eyes+downtown+core/2307094/story.html

Gord Henderson wrote with all the throb of a steamy harlequin romance novel. His leading man is the "larger-than-life London developer Schmuel Farhi" who met our vulnerable young mayor Eddie Francis at a wedding. A "larger than life developer"? That IS big. It makes Mikhail Holdings and Madycorp look like chopped liver.

Eddie and Schmuel started wooing each other immediately and in the blink of an eye they were shacking up in Windsor. And what good things were born from this tight union? In no time at all the City of Windsor transacted a land swap deal on Lauzon Road which gave us our new arena and Schmuel took back a sizeable chunk of the downtown western anchor in exchange.

Just like his new better half "he believes the proposed canal, which would run right by his property at Bruce and Pitt, would create an immediate tourist attraction and make Windsor more attractive for those considering retiring here". Hmmm...All that water must be good for reheumatism.

Schmuel is so smitten he yelped to Mr. Henderson that "Windsor benefits from having the best mayor in Ontario, a pro business council and fast and responsive administrators".
Wow! Sweet nuthins like that are bound to attract a nine iron from his better half London Ontario. Farhi "cackled" that his relationship with Eddie Francis is stronger than the turmoil in the Middle East.

Alas, Gord Henderson wrote that the relationship between Schmuel Farhi and Eddie Francis is deep and cerebral. "What they have in common is "brains and gumption. More than most of us possess." How touching after all.

Wooof! It sounds like Gord got his own spectacles all steamed up. Thats OK though. Windsorites are pretty metro about such things. We don't even have an issue if the Gordo wants to watch. After all...What are friends for?

I believe Elin used a 3 iron. A sand wedge may be more appropriate in this case.

Notice the hint in the Star article:
"Retirement community"
If this is what these two friends, as you call them, are cooking up then all of the kiddie bars better start projecting out to liver and onions. Again...Who needs a faux canal? Sounds like a perpetual cost item and a maintenance nightmare. Windsor still debates every year about dissing the peace fountain. How are they going to deal with this wading pool as it freezes over every year and cracks all of the cement that holds it together? Some flooded basements and law suits are on the way.

MY god people. Really? you think that building a canal will stop sewer replacement?

Do you know that Windsor can actually do 2 things at once? Besides sewer and watermain replacements are going full tilt in 2010.
You see they can't shut down all of the watermains and sewers and they will be doing as much as possible next year.

But I forgot. Windsor has done so well in re-establishing itself as anything but a lunch bucket, poor culture mentality driven town that we dont' need to change our downtown or build a new community in that area.

Why change? Windsor is great. We just need more roads, more big box retail and more "white bread" living. Screw flavour, taste and ambiance we don't need it here.

Downtown Windsor is a train wreck. We'll give you that. Yes it does need help but a canal? A very poor idea on so many levels. Its a redundant water feature. Kiddies will be pissing in it, throwing each other in it and spiking it with laundry detergent. Because it is cement it will crack and fail. Lots of water damage and insurance claims. It will be filled with municipal water and not even connect with the Detroit River. How much will that cost? We could achieve the same end result with a cobbled promenade and some commercial and residential infill.
You must be one of the downtown Windsor business owners. Looks like you are cringing towards the smell of money spent on anything in your area. Regardless of how poorly thought out it might be.
