Timing is Right For Trendy Old Walkerville

Business Area Rises Up. New Commerce on the Way

Look around the business corridor in Old Walkerville and you will see improvement. Lots of it. New trees, planters, litter control and most important, more business. The area is quickly establishing itself as a trendy, upscale enclave. Some would say a "best kept secret".

This is a business district which has kept it's historical identity in tact and Shop and business owners are working it to the max. Night life is especially good in Old Walkerville. There are no "kiddie bars" here. The cafes and nightclubs are for big kids and they don't mind paying a little extra to keep it that way.

There is a healthy amount of new development in the area as well. Brand new, "build to suit" comercial space for bars, restaurants, shops and commerce will be available very soon. Upscale condominiums will also be finished in the near future. The best part...Lots of support from the local residential community. For Urbanists it's paradise.

Here is a pictoral report card:

HOW ABOUT OLD STUBBY HERE?

AFTER WHO KNOWS HOW MANY YEARS...FIXED!

The following pics depict some things which still need a little work. Shop keeps and BIA volunteers are no doubt aware and working on it.

GRAFITTI IS NOT THAT HARD TO CLEAN OFF

Old Walkerville is really looking good these days. If you haven't visited in a while you should. Day or night. Impressive!

If only the DWBIA could be as proactive and have such success. I guess their idea of success is bars and strippers from the look of downtown.

Speaking of timing, great times and nightlife in Old Walkerville: When is the Pig Roast?

I simply love this area and try to do a lot of my shopping here. Gourmet Emporium and Jones & Co. are great stores for gift ideas. I was sad to see SOHO close. At Art Walkerville I got to see Britton Images and ended up having a photo shoot done for my dog. We try to go to the Velvet for breakfast a lot too and Taloola is a favourite for lunch and Kildare for dinner.

There is a pig roast at the Kildare House on Sunday, October 12th for anyone who doesn’t want to cook for Thanksgiving. The festivities are all weekend as the “Friends of the Kildare House” work to raise funds to keep the Kildare part of the neighbourhood.

Nasty typo in your heading- otherwise keep up the good works...

That was a glaring typo wasn't it? Thanks.

What, no picture of the vacant lot and used car dealership/auto repair garage? Or the Monarch Matress Company building? Talk about selective memory.
