Gourmet Emporium Revs Up Old Walkerville

You've seen this building many times on your way to work or play. It's on the corner of Wyandotte and Chilver. A long time ago it was built as a Bank of Montreal Main branch for Walkerville. It is still the only example we have in Windsor of a true Italian Renaissance style building.

There is a brand new renaissance happening within its walls right now. An exciting eatery and retail operation called the Gourmet Emporium. This place is exquisitely decorated and a very charming place to sit and sample from an extensive line of loose organic teas and Fair Trade Organic coffees and a slew of unique beverages. If you're feeling a bit hungry there is an extensive menu with lush appetizers, gorgeous salads, soups, sandwiches and pizza. The most expensive item is only $8.95. The Gourmet Imporium also has a liquor licence in case you are thinking about a good, dry martini or maybe something a little on the dirty side. Come Spring they are ready for the great outdoors with a patio which will wrap right around the corner.

This weekend the proprietors are ramping in a Tappas menu so be sure to stop in and try that out. Live entertainment is lined up and on the way.

Something for business people and bloggers too:
Free Internet!
Perhaps the local blogging community can scope this op out for their meetings. Paul Synnott are you out there?

It's definately worth a try people. Do something new for lunch this week. Head over to the Gourmet Emporium and enjoy.

Thanks for the update, MOM. I've stopped in to check the place out but haven't ordered anything off the menu. We'll be waiting for Adriano and Pina over at WindsorEats to give us their take on this establishment.

This month's blogger meetup is scheduled for Feb 27th at Taloola who has yet to get on the WiFi bandwagon - we really must talk to them), but the Gourmet Emporium should follow up on the rotation the next time we're in Olde Walkerville.

I'll add it to the list on the WIKI, if it's not already there.

How about using Bubi's next time? They have Wifi. Or we can use someplace downtown.

A downtown site is next on the rotation for March, we're open to suggestions... Bubi's would be a good location for a warm weather meetup out on the patio.

Where is the next meeting and when?

Possible Downtown meeting locations:

- Plunkett's Bistro

- City Beer Market

- Buda

These could be possible locations. I'm sure I can help provide some other ones too if needed.

Count me in for the Beer Market, great place. Never been to Buda but that sounds interesting as well.

Thanks M.O.M.
Tried the place out for lunch today. Pretty cool. Tables on first floor and mezzanine. Tried the Wicked Tofu Salad and the Mongolian bullets. Very tasty indeed! For anyone who is looking for some interesting stuff for gift baskets this is the place. Nice adder for Walkerville.

Go Walkerville Pride! After too much procrastinating I finally gave the G.E. a shot and had lunch there with the Mrs. We were both very satisfied with our meals. This is a high class place and fancy menu selections to match, but with prices very close to what you'd pay in an ordinary roadside diner. So why settle for a greasy monte cristo and fries when a couple can eat high style at the G.E. for a couple bucks more? Definitely will be back. The spices and specialty items weren't cheap but you get what you pay for - premium quality items you won't find at Price Chopper.
